Millwright vs Nominal
Nominal Core brings telemetry, logs, video, and the traceable report into one workspace; Connect runs the test at the edge in Python, down to air-gapped ranges. When Nominal says operate, it means the program. Millwright means the plant: the shift, the alarm, the procedure, the ticket.
- Keep Nominal when
- The work is a test cadence: more runs, faster replay, a report you can trace.
- Pick Millwright when
- The plant is in service, and nobody is sequencing a stand.

The job
- Millwright
- A plant or a fleet already in service.
- Nominal
- Testing hardware, then operating the program around it.
Center of gravity
- Millwright
- The shift, the procedure, the ticket a person signs.
- Nominal
- The test. Live monitoring, replay, a report the program can trace.
At the edge
- Millwright
- Reads the historian. Does not sequence a test or command a rig.
- Nominal
- Connect reads and writes instruments, including offline and air-gapped.
After the event
- Millwright
- The conclusion shows its evidence. A human closes.
- Nominal
- Replay and a traceable report for the program.
Who
- Millwright
- Operators, planners, contractors, stakeholders.
- Nominal
- Hardware, test, and systems engineers.
Where it runs
- Millwright
- Hosted, in your cloud, or on the plant floor. Read-only first.
- Nominal
- Core in their cloud, yours, or on-prem. Connect where the hardware is.
Nominal as described on their public pages in October 2026. Corrections.
Where Nominal wins
- The work is a test cadence: more runs, faster replay, a report you can trace.
- You need an edge runtime that executes the test, including air-gapped.
- The users are hardware and test engineers.
Where Millwright wins
- The users are a crew running a plant already in service.
- The controller and the test software are already chosen.
- A customer should see one site, not the program.
How they fit together
A test program and a plant are different customers for the word operate. Connect commanding instruments is closer to Revel than to anything here. Buy Nominal for the campaign and the engineers on it; buy Millwright for the sites in service, the work, and who may see one of them.
Questions
Nominal says it operates hardware. Why a separate page?
Because the word covers two jobs. Nominal operates the hardware program, with engineers reviewing synchronized data. Millwright operates the industrial plant, with a crew, a CMMS, and procedures.
Does Millwright run tests the way Connect does?
No. It does not sequence tests, command instruments, or replace the edge runtime. It reads the historian after the machine is in service.
We do both: a test program and a fleet in the field. Both?
Aimed at different rooms, yes. Nominal for the campaign and its engineers. Millwright for the sites in service and who may see one of them.
See it running on your own plant.
We are onboarding a small number of operations teams. Three questions, and we will be in touch.
